The Byzantine Coin market has many great shops on Etsy and eBay. eBay is a site that is more established in the numismatics community and I recommend using that. There are more specialized sites that are coming up now but if you want a site which within reach and known to almost everyone, eBay is the place to start collecting coins. However, caution is important when starting a coin collection.
Theancientcoinguy has an excellent collection of coins that are affordable. He generally does not have gold coins as his shop is more about coins beginners can buy without stretching their budgets. The coins that I purchased were Byzantine Trachy Coins from the 12th to 13th Century.
I ordered the coins on a Saturday and managed to get those coins quickly in the mail by Wednesday. He ships from Rochester, NY, so he is a great seller for anyone on the East Coast as you will not be waiting weeks to get a coin here. He does not accept returns so you should make sure that the coins that you are buying from him are what you desire to have in your collection.
I responded with gratefulness for his speedy delivery of the two coins. He responds quickly unlike some other sellers who tend to be silent when you send messages to their accounts.
The coins are carefully packaged so safely arrive at your doorstep. He clearly cares about presentation here.
Currently he has over 100 coins available for sale. He has been selling on eBay since 2007. These coins cover a chronological period from He has sold well over 5000 coins with a high rating over 99%. I can safety assume he is legitimate and a reliable seller.
I told him that I am going to purchase from him again and he was happy to hear it. These two coins are the beginning of my Byzantine coin collection and there is no finer store on eBay than Theancientcoinguy and his collection of coins.
